How to create a poll in a WhatsApp group: steps, end time and hidden votes
A poll is the fastest way to get a decision out of a busy group. How to create one, the new 2026 options and how to use them well.
Direct answer: To create a poll in a WhatsApp group, open the group, tap the paperclip (Android) or + (iPhone), choose Poll, write the question, add up to 12 options and send. Turn off Allow multiple answers for a single vote. Since August 2026 you can also set an end time, hide voter names and edit the question within 15 minutes.
In short:
- Paperclip or + > Poll > question > up to 12 options > send.
- New in 2026: end time, hidden votes and 15-minute editing.
- Few options and one question per poll get more votes.

|---|---|
| End time | Voting locks at the time you set, no need to announce it is over |
| Hide voter names | Members see results without seeing each vote; useful for sensitive topics |
