How to turn off Meta AI in WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business
A guide for admins of professional groups who need to control how Meta AI is used in team, customer and community chats.

Direct answer: The WhatsApp Help Center describes Meta AI as optional, but it does not describe a setting that turns it off across the whole app, in WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business. How to turn on Advanced chat privacy in a group
This is the closest thing to "turning off Meta AI" in a work group. According to the Help Center, when it is on, participants cannot mention Meta AI in that chat, cannot export the chat, and media is no longer saved automatically to recipients' phones.
- Open the group and tap its name.
- Tap Advanced chat privacy.
- Turn it on.
In groups, who can change it depends on the group permissions: if only admins can edit group settings, only admins can change this option. See how to set group permissions.
The setting applies to the whole chat, not to one person. Tell the group before turning it on, because exporting the chat stops working too.
How to remove Meta AI from a group
If someone added Meta AI as a participant, it appears in the member list. According to the Help Center, admins can remove it like any other participant:
- Open group info and find Meta AI in the participant list.
- Tap it and choose Remove.
To keep it from coming back, restrict who can add participants in the group permissions.
How to delete your chat with Meta AI
The Meta AI chat sits in your chat list and can be deleted like the others: long press it (Android) or swipe left (iPhone) and choose Delete chat. The About Meta AI page explains the options for deleting messages and what Meta AI keeps.
Deleting the chat does not remove the Meta AI button or icon from the app. The Help Center does not describe a way to hide them.
Meta AI in WhatsApp Business
In the WhatsApp Business app, the privacy rules are the same: Meta AI only receives what is mentioned to it or shared with it. For support or team groups, the most protective combination is Advanced chat privacy on, only admins editing group settings, and a written rule about what can be shared in the group.
